Engineering Strategy • Technical Stewardship • Infrastructure Realism
"I don't just build software; I engineer stability. My goal is to transform 'swampy' technical environments into high-integrity systems that provide long-term, predictable value."
I operate at the intersection of Structural Integrity and Resource Efficiency. I believe that "Proper" isn't about over-engineering—it’s about building foundations that are inherently understandable and secure. "Frugal" is my commitment to eliminating waste: whether that's unnecessary SaaS overhead, redundant code, or the cognitive drain of technical debt.
In the startup space, speed is a requirement; however, recklessness is a choice. I advocate for Moving Fast with Intention:
- The Hard Line: Security and Authentication are foundational. There is no "trade-off" for integrity.
- Strategic Debt: I use technical debt as a calculated financial instrument—buying speed today only when the "repayment plan" and downstream implications are fully mapped and understood.
A codebase is a shared asset. I implement high-level standardisation (Mono-repos, Identity Consolidation, Unified Tooling) because consistency is a form of empathy for the team. I strive for "Inherent Understanding"—architectures that "just make sense" and reduce the onboarding tax for every new engineer.
I lead by being a Cultural Gravity Well. I don't just manage; I protect the environment so that others can do their best work.
- The Mentor-Architect: I look past the "outer shell" of technical friction to solve for human root causes—helping teams gain the "scar tissue" necessary for true seniority.
- The Deference Trap: I recognize that a company shouldn't depend on one "hero." I focus on building the infrastructure that empowers the entire organization to solve problems autonomously.
I view technical ecosystems like a property portfolio. I’m not interested in the "shiny" fix if it doesn't improve the long-term valuation of the asset. I enjoy the "archaeology" of legacy tech—identifying the logical path out of chaos and into a "Proper" state.
My drive for precision and stewardship extends into the physical world:
- Financial Modeling: Building sophisticated tools to project and protect long-term investment ROI.
- Mechanical DIY: Applying "Proper but Frugal" logic to complex car repairs and trailer engineering.
- Metalworking: Exploring the rigid, structural logic of welding and fabrication—seeking the same perfection in steel that I demand in code.
I thrive in leadership and advisory roles that require Intentional, Open, and Meaningful engagement. If you need a strategist to secure your perimeter and scale your foundations, let's connect.
